Scholarship Gold Consulting

An essential workshop for any student 9th-12th grade
who needs to learn to communicate effectively

Communicating articulately and with confidence can make or break an admission or scholarship interview. Effective interviewing skills will also have an impact on future job or internship opportunities. This class will equip students to think on their feet, know what they want to say and help them say it in the right way.

This fun and Interactive class will cover:

  • the importance of good communication skills, not just in the college admission and scholarship process, but in all areas of life (relationships, job searches, etc.)
  •  body language- posture, eye contact, hand shakes...all of the ways you send a message without even saying a word. We'll also cover what to wear to admissions and scholarship events
  • how to answer questions articulately and thoughtfully, in a way that tells the other person you are mature and able to think critically
  • word crutches and the importance of ditching them. We'll get rid of the "ums", "likes", "you knows" and other crutches that make someone sound indecisive and unconvincing.
  • the most common interview questions for admissions and scholarships. Students will be given a chance to practice how they would answer those questions in an interview setting.

We will also break into small groups and practice interviewing and providing constructive feedback to one another.

Location:

This the one workshop that does not lend itself to remote learning as well as our other offerings,  There is something to be said for sitting across a table with one or more of your peers and practicing answering interview questions.

Our in-person events are typically held in Lake Wylie.  Currently we rent space at the Lake Wylie Christian Assembly on Hwy 49.  (see map).  We will send detailed directions closer to the event.

Take Advantage of Our Editing Services

Once you have your first draft, you can make use of our in-house professional editor, Deborah Thompson.  She has over ten years of experience in high-level academic editing. She has terrific insight into the voice and structure of an extraordinary admission and scholarship essay for the undergraduate level.  Contact her directly at deborah.scholarshipgold@gmail.com

Editing is typically arranged by sending her the link to the Google or Word doc. Then, Deborah reviews and emails back the edited version, full of suggestions, corrections, and feedback. She can do a re-edit once the student has revised the draft.

We believe it is much more fair and appropriate only to charge the same hourly rate for editing as we would for any of our services (
$95/hr) rather than the typical method of the industry, which is to charge exorbitant rates by the word count. In our system, stronger essays need less editing and will cost less. Our method saves clients over 50% over other editing services and provides superior results.
